A Slow Day

A bigot with a bible,
A salesman with a smile,
He reads to me a passage,
He says I’m in denial.
Deaf to the deepest cry,
Blind to the guiding hand,
He reads another passage
To make me understand.

I ask about Poseidon
And Zeus, and Buddha too,
But those are man’s creation
And God created you!

He reads another passage:
I am a jealous God,
‘I thought he was all loving?’
‘How odd’ I say, how odd.

‘And what of dated doctrines?
So many millions dead,
Your leader lied that condoms
Were causing aids to spread!’
‘And what of homosexuals?’
His eyes grew wide and hot,
You support homosexuals?
‘Of course I do, why not?’

The bigot finds his voice now,
The salesman fades away,
You’re evil, it’s unnatural!,
My courtesy gives way.

‘You’re morally contemptible,
Now get out of my sight,
And try to learn compassion,
Perhaps you’ll see the light!’

Your judgement is soon coming,
God have mercy on you!
‘Keep your fake forgiveness,
You need more than I do’.
